XJTU had a goal to become a world-famous high-level university when it moved in 1956 to Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi Province, from Shanghai. After it incorporated Shaanxi Institute of Finance and Economics in 2000, it still fails to even get on the list of top universities in China. XJTU has 20 departments, eight colleges and eight affiliated hospitals.

Tuition: 3,850 – 9,900 yuan per year


Notable alumni:

Jiang Zemin, former President of China;

Qian Xuesen, father of the Chinese missile and space program;

Zou Taofen, renowned publicist
