Japan's K computer surpassed China's Tianhe-1A and grabbed the first title, according to the latest top 500 supercomputer list released on June 20 by Top500.org.
Built by Fujitsu Co. and installed at the Riken Advanced Institute for Computational Science, "Computer K" has a capability of performing more than 8 quadrillion calculations per second.
Tianhe-1A in China's National Supercomputing Center in Tianjin, with a performance at 2.6 quadrillion calculations each second ranks second this time. And a Cray supercomputer from the United States got the third place with the speed of 1.8 quadrillion calculations every second.
Among this time's top 500 supercomputers, China has 62 supercomputing systems, recording its best performance, and increases 21 supercomputers since last November.
Top 500 supercomputer list, released twice a year by Top500.org, is considered as the most powerful supercomputer rankings around the world.
