Pollutant: Numerous chemicals and toxic byproducts from numerous chemical-manufacturing processes

Site description:

For years this area has been heavily polluted by chemical toxins. Between 1930 and 1998, about 300,000 tons of chemical waste were improperly land-filled in Dzershinsk, which resulted in 190 identified chemicals being released into the groundwater. In 2007, the Guinness Book of World Records named Dzershinsk the most polluted city in the world.
