On March 31, 1970, Japan Airlines Flight 351 scheduled from Tokyo to Fukuoka was hijacked by nine members of the Japanese Communist League-Red Army Faction. The 122 passengers and seven crew members were released at Fukuoka Airport and Kimpo Airport in Seoul. The plane was forced to fly to North Korea. After the plane arrived at Mirim Airport in Pyongyang, the hijackers surrendered to the North Korean authorities, who offered the whole group asylum.
