Seven ancient bridges from the late Warring States Period (476-221 BC) to the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907) were founded in Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province. The longest one was 880 meters long and 15.4 meters wide, with wooden beams, which is believed to be the longest bridge found in this style in the world. Liu Rui, a deputy researcher with the Institute of Archaeology under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences said that the discovery fills an academic void on the ancient bridges of Chang'an (now Xi'an).
