Ilha da Queimada Grande, also known as the Snake Island, lies off the coast of Brazil in the Atlantic Ocean. Although small in size, the island is the only home of the critically-endangered, venomous Bothrops insularis (golden lancehead pit viper). No tourist is allowed to visit the island to protect both sides.
