Top 10 attractive Chinese cities for foreigners in 2016

Shanghai has been the most attractive Chinese city for expatriates for the fifth year in a row, as disclosed by the results of a nationwide survey released by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs.

In the list of the top 10 most attractive Chinese cities for foreigners this year, Beijing and Hanghzourank second and third. Changchun enters the list for the first time.

The annual ranking, first compiled in 2010, surveys foreigners living and working in China. It is based on 1,701 paper ballotsand 22,780 online ballots this year. It evaluates Chinese cities' living environment, health care, public security, job opportunities and potential for self-development, work environment, incentives and public services for foreign professionals, cosmopolitan atmosphere and inclusiveness.

The review panel that approves the ranking is composed of 30 experts and professionals, including Nobel Laureates and recipients of the Chinese Government Friendship Award.

In regard to the reasons for foreigners wanting to coming to China, 52.7 percent respondents are attracted by employment opportunities, and 45.4 percent are optimistic about China's economy.

Inchoosing the cities, foreigners prioritized environment protection and pollution, convenience on exit and entry, whether it is easy to stay, history and culture of the city, whether it is convenient to live, and international education environment.
