New York topped the list of the 2017 Global Cities Index with the greatest comprehensive strength, according to the Global Cities 2017 report released by A.T. Kaearney, a leading management consulting firm with offices in more than 40 countries.
Two Chinese cities, Hong Kong and Beijing were on the top 10 list. In addition, another metropolis, Shanghai, was ranked 19th on the list.
The report includes two lists: the Global Cities Index and the Global Cities Outlook. The Global Cities Index focuses on cities' performance and another list evaluates their potential.
Cities that ranked in the top 25 of both lists were rated as "Global Elites". There were 16 such cities this year, including London, New York and Paris.
Dan Starta, Partner at A.T. Kearney and the managing director of A.T. Kearney Greater China, said that the development of China's national strength, economy and the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative provide a solid foundation for the further development of Chinese cities.
This is the 7th edition of the report. The 2017 Global Cities Index is based on five criteria; business activity, human capital, information exchange, cultural experience and political engagement.
