4. The net profits of the three industries of banking, post and telecommunication services, and oil and natural gas mining account for nearly half of the total profits by the Top 500.
The Top 500 Companies of China in 2010 gained total profits of 1,502.94 billion yuan. As for the three industries of banking, post and telecommunication services, and petroleum and natural gas extraction and production, their overall net profits reached 687.3 billion yuan, accounting for 45.7 percent of the total. Specifically, the banking industry made the largest profits at 453.4 billion yuan, 30.2 percent of the total; the post and telecommunication service industry made profits of 121 billion yuan, 8 percent of the total; the petroleum and natural gas extraction and production industry made profits of 112.9 billion yuan, 7.5 percent of the total. On the whole, the ample profits of these three industries are highly relevant to the macroeconomic situation and the firms' respective monopolies. The profits of the Top 500 Companies are largely from the three industries, which indicates that China's companies have a weaker profitability. For more details, please refer to Table 1-9.
