Located eight kilometers to the north of Mianchi County in Henan Province, Yangshao Village (仰韶村遗址) is one of the most important sites of the Neolithic period. In 1951, the Archaeological Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences conducted a large-scale excavation of the Yangshao ruins.
Yangshao Village is believed to have been active between 5,000 BC and 3,000 BC, and its pottery has been noted as being one of the era's greatest achievements. Examples include ornate red bowls, cups and jars.
