- Location: Ya'er Lake Village, Turpan City, Xinjiang Autonomous Region
Located in Ya'er Lake Village, 10 km west of Turpan, the present site (雅尔湖故城) of the city was built in the Tang Dynasty and following dynasties. It was a prefecture of the Gaochang during the Sixteen States (304AD-439 AD) and a county of the Gaochang Prefecture after the 14th year (640 AD) of the Zhenguan reign during the Tang Dynasty.
It was 1,000 meters long north to south and 300 meters wide east to west. A wide street stretching north to south cut the residential area into eastern and western sections. There is an impressive temple at the north end of the street. There is also well- preserved architecture on the south side. Various pieces of pottery are scattered throughout the city, most of which is decorated with gray patterns.
