With the approval of the central government, the first Silk Road International Cultural Expo (SRICE) will be held in Dunhuang City, Gansu Province from September 20 to 21, 2016.

The aim of the first SRICE (Dunhuang) is to "promote cultural communication, seek cooperation and mutural development." It will be led by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, Ministry of Culture and State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of China (SAPPRFT), hosted by the People's Government of Gansu Province, Minisry of Culture, SAPPRFT, China National Tourism Administration, and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and co-organized by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, State Ethnic Affairs Commission, General Administration of Customs, General Administration of Sport, Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, State Administration of Cultural Heritage, China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and All-China Youth Federation.

About 1500 people will attend the event, including state leaders of China and other countries, representatives of international organizations, leaders and officials of the central government and the state administrations, invited high-ranking government officials of other cuntries, leaders and officials from governments and cultural departments along the Silk Road, experts, scholars and cultural gurus at home and abroad, representatives of well-known domestic and foreign cultural enterprises and institutions, leaders of the provincial and local governments and related institutions in Gansu Province, leaders, experts and scholars in related colleges, universities and institutions of social sciences both inside and outside Gansu, domestic and foreign media and other distinguished guests.

The Guest of Honor of this year's event is France.

There are four types of activities: summits, annual cultural exhibition, component activities and cultural performances. The two major activities of the summits and annual cultural exhibition will be hosted by the government during the expo. Componenent activities will be led by the government and held by social forces, which can be held either during the major activities or befor or after the major activities.

Summits consist of one main forum, five sub-forums supporting the summit conference theme and five special forums. The main forum focuses on "Inherit the Silk Road Spirit and Facilitate Exchanges and Mutual Learning among Civilizations," in which the state leaders participating in the summits will deliver their keynote speeches.

The five sub-forums, attended by Chinese and foreign government officials and related experts and sholars, respectively discuss the following topics: develop cooperative mechanisms in cultures along the Silk Road, mutual learning and mutually beneficial development among civilizations in the global community of common destiny, "culture+: promoting innovation and development of civilizations, cultural industry and economic and trade cooperation, Dunhuang Culture's value in the contemporary era. The 5 special forums are the high-end forum of Rewi Alley's Internationalism and the Development of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, the international forum of Cultural Heritage along the Silk Road, the forum of Inheritance and innovative Development of Ethnic Cultures -Development of Cultural Industries of Ethnic Groups of Zang, Qiang and Yi, international academic forum of "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow of the Silk Road," and forum of the Digitial Silk Road.

Annual Cultural Exhibition, comprising International area, China area, Gansu area and Theme area, display in static form and dynamic forum the histories, cultures, ethnic customs, cultural and art products, innovative cultural achievements and cultural tourism products of countries and regions along the Silk Road.

Component Activities: This year's event has gained considerable attention and support from different sectors and collected over 120 component activities, among which those of prominent themes and distinguishing features have been chosen as the component activities for the event.

Cultural Performance: Along the Silk Road, a classic dance drama created by Gansu Province, will be performed on the first night of this year's event. The large-scale variety show Gather Together in Dunhuang will be performed on the night of the closing ceremony. In addition, eight calssical Chinese and foreign dramas and other wonderful commercial performances will be played during the event.
