China to hold 1st Silk Road cultural expo in Dunhuang

China will hold the first Silk Road International Cultural Expo in Dunhuang, northwestern Gansu Province, on Sept. 20 and 21.

The aim of the event is to "promote cultural communication, seek cooperation and mutural development" among nations along the route of the ancient Silk Road

About 1500 people will attend the event, including state leaders of China and other countries, representatives of international organizations, high-ranking government officials of other cuntries, experts, scholars and cultural gurus at home and abroad, and representatives of well-known domestic and foreign cultural enterprises and institutions.

The Guest of Honor of this year's session is France.

There are four types of acitivities: summits, annual cultural exhibition, component activities and cultural performances.

The event is sponsored by the Gansu government; the Ministry of Culture; the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television; the National Tourism Administration; and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.
