Haiti has reconfirmed to attend the Shanghai 2010 World Expo after the massive earthquake half a month ago, the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination said Wednesday.
The bureau said in a statement that Madelaine Germain, Haiti's coordinator for the World Expo, has managed to make contacts with the secretariat of the Caribbean Community.
Germain told the secretariat that she would attend the World Expo coordination meeting of the Caribbean Community member states in Guyana on February 1 to promote the preparatory work, the statement said.
The 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck near the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince on January 12, with the confirmed death toll surpassing more than 150,000 by Sunday.
Member states of the Caribbean Community will have a joint participation in the Expo. The pavilion has been completed, in which Haitian hall covers about 250 square meters.
Shanghai World Expo coordinators said earlier they are considering a plan to exhibit the changed landscape of Port-au-Prince before and after the quake, to make a stronger presence of the country to the world.
"We plan to present the views of the quake-devastated capital before and after the earthquake in the Haitian Hall to call for more attention and supports from the international community for its reconstruction," He Lihua, an exhibition official, said on January 16.
A total of 242 nations and international organizations have confirmed to attend the Shanghai World Expo, which runs from May 1 to October 31.
