Footprint: Around 758 Square Meters

Key Words: Ecological, Interactions between Urban and Rural Areas

Case Prototype

Tengtou Village, which is governed by the city of Ningbo, is located in a coastal area in China’s eastern Zhejiang Province. Since China’s reforms and opening to the outside world, Tengtou Village has rapidly developed its agricultural industry based on its abundant natural resources, while building a harmonious ecological environment. The ecological functions are well showcased through more than 20 specific ecological projects, such as the “Garden of Jiang Nan Social Customs”, “Birds’ Heaven”, “Farmhouse Hospitality”, “Farmers’ Park” and “Penjing Garden”. In the meantime, Tengtou has aggressively developed its tourism, which focuses on ecological and recreational tours to a national resort.

Case Highlight

The “Ningbo Tengtou Pavilion”, with the village’s life style and development philosophies, will be erected within the Urban Best Practices Area at Expo 2010. It is adjacent to the Tang Dynasty Palace of Xi’an and the Tent City of Mina (Saudi Arabia). It is a two-floor stand alone pavilion, with an overall area of 1,500 square meters.

The pavilion looks like an antique beauty, with traditional Jiang Nan folk house elements embodied on the door, window, wall and roof structures, to fully showcase the unique cultural features of a modern Jiang Nan water town.

The pavilion will display environmentally sound and modern agricultural technologies, and will showcase demonstrations and interactive programs, such as the Eco-house combined with a prototype of a Tengtou folk house, which contains green plants, wind and solar power facilities, roof garden, water and waste treatment systems, and many other eco-solutions, reflecting local people’s healthy life style and a harmonious coexistence with nature. At the “Eco-experience Zone”, visitors will have a chance to interact with nature, listening to the sounds of the breeze and streams, and inhaling the fragrance of flowers. Delicate flower hats and plant coats are also expected to be served for visitors to take an unforgettable “eco-photo”.
