A photo exhibition on the 2010 World Expo and a theme week for Expo tourism was unveiled in Moscow Wednesday.

The photo exhibition, staged at the square of the All-Russia Exhibition Center and featuring photographs displaying Shanghai Expo pavilions and Chinese landscapes, was co-hosted by the Chinese National Tourism Bureau and the Chinese embassy in Russia.

Chinese ambassador Li Hui said at the opening ceremony that the World Expo, after more than 150 years of development, had become an important platform for civilization convergence as well as showcasing different countries and ethnic cultures.

Hosting World Expo was an event of significance and influence for both China and the entire world, the ambassador said.

Russian Deputy Minister of Sport, Tourism and Youth Policy Oleg Rozhnov said the Shanghai Expo, which starts on May 1, would definitely become a grand gathering of tremendous success.

Spectacular martial arts and national dancing were also performed at the opening. The theme week will last until May 3.
