Kung Fu meets Ceramics at Expo

A sculpture matrix is expected to showcase Chinese Kung Fu from August 16 to 22 at the Shanghai World Expo, with each iconic figure lifting one or several sculpted models of world renowned work of architecture.
Among the 150 red-colored sculptures to be showcased at the Future Pavilion of the Expo, 50 are made of Fushan ceramic in a traditional way and another 100 are made of stainless steel and ceramics.
These sculptures are about 2-meter high, stand on one leg, with another leg in kung-fu pose lifting one or several replicas of renowned architecture.
Famous artist Shu Yong pointed out that the icon is not kicking but lifting, and added that the matrix signifies Chinese culture spreading globally and promoting development around the world.
The replicas include the White House, the British Museum, the Triumphal Arch, the Sydney Opera House, China's Bird Nest stadium, the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Guggenheim Museum, the Dubai Hotel and the Jin Mao Tower.
The figures represent not only Bruce Lee, the Chinese-American actor and most influential martial artist, but also a combination of the Chinese Kung Fu masters, such as Huang Fei-hung and Ip Man (Cantonese). Shu attempts to elaborate on the far-reaching influence of Chinese culture by connecting Kung Fu and ceramics.
According to Shu, Foshan city is famous for the ceramics and Kung Fu masters, and by combining the two elements, he hopes these sculptures can set an excellent image for Foshan city via the Expo stage.
