Tourists walk on the Qianmen Street in Beijing, capital of China, Aug. 20, 2008. Police began to restrict the flow of tourists in the Qianmen Street for their safety recently. The maximum capacity of the street is 18,000 people. After a massive refurbishment lasting over one year, the Qianmen Street with a history of 570 years in the heart of the Chinese capital reopened to visitors on Aug. 7, one day ahead of the opening of the 29th Summer Olympics. The Street lies on Beijing's historic central axis just south of Tian'anmen Square and the Forbidden City. The refurbishment restored the glory of Qianmen as a key commercial and cultural hub of old Beijing. [Lu Jinbo/Xinhua]
