Gaoyi(meaning high armchair in English) Village in Hunan Province got its name for its unique topography: surrounded on three sides by the mountains and on one side by water, resembling an old-fashioned wooden armchair.
The village boasts a cluster of ancient architectures which date back to the Qing Dynasty with a floor space of 19,416 square meters. There are 594 families living here, most of whom are the descendants of a marquis of the Southern Song Dynasty.
In spring, the sights include large yellow fields of rape flowers covering the land like a blanket.
