The anticipated tourism peak in Beijing will come after the Olympic Games, China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) said Tuesday.
China News Service quoted Wang Zhifa, CNTA's vice director as saying 'the occupancy rate of hotel rooms in Beijing and other co-host cities has been rather good till now, but it is far from the peak level.'
From August 1 to 10, Beijing and five other Olympic co-host cities received 175 tour groups with 6350 tourists. The occupancy rate of Beijing's hotel rooms reached 81.2 percent on Sunday.
Wang said that athletes and sports fans composed the main bulk of tourists, with normal tourists waiting until the games was over. He added that the situation is quite common for Olympic tourism.
The price of a standard hotel room in Beijing has also soared to 2,946 yuan ($429), the highest point in recent periods.
