The shipbuilding industrial output value of Qingdao City is expected to hit 30 billion yuan (US$4.8 billion) in 2012, up 38 percent from a year earlier, according to a recent survey by the city's economy and information committee.
Despite the widespread effect of global economic slowdown, Qingdao's shipbuilding industry moved up among the national ship companies to register 21.6 billion yuan of gross industrial output value last year, up 28.2 percent year-on-year.
Named as a National Ship Export Base by the Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Qingdao plans to expand the city's marine engineering equipment manufacturing and supporting industries this year.
