Reporter learned from the press conference of survey on germplasm resources of forest that through 3 years’ survey, there are 764 kinds of woody plants resources, accounting for 80.8% of Shandong Province. 50 species are few in number and those endangered have been listed in the catalog of rare and endangered species in Qingdao. In this survey, Laoshan Sakura, a rare species was found near Beijiushui.

It is the first comprehensive survey on germplasm resources of forest, which covers all kinds of germplasm resources including wild species, cultivated species and exotic trees. Researchers have been to all the mountains and valleys and traveled about over 80,000 kilometers. 15,600 samples were collected, 25,800 forms were filled and 55,000 pictures were taken. 2 “Laoshan Sakura” plants are discovered during this survey, which is quite important for the breeding.

Influenced by both human and environmental factors, resources of many rare species have fallen sharply, some of them are endangered and being extinct. In 2020, 30 storehouses for 50 tree species and over 8 breeding bases will be built to make sure these resources are well-protected. Findings of this survey will provide valuable information to ecological construction in the future.
