China's first undersea subway tunnel recently began construction in Qingdao, a coastal city of east China's Shandong province.

The overall length of subway line No. 1 in the city will be 59.97 kilometers including 8.1-kilometer undersea tunnel.

The subway line No. 1 will have 40 underground stations connecting west coast, east coast and north coast urban areas.
