Construction of a new oil pipeline and railway was launched recently at Dongjiakou harbor area of Qingdao Port, one of the world's busiest ports. The oil pipeline, which is expected to transport 30 million tonnes annually, will start at Dongjiakou Port area and link the cities of Qingdao, Weifang, Dongying and Binzhou in Shandong Province. Construction also began on a 15.78-kilometer railway linking the Dongjiakou's loading area with South Dongjiakou Railway Station. Fueled by surging imports of crude oil by China's independent oil, or teapot, refineries most of which are in Shandong, Qingdao Port has seen unprecedented congestion this year. The monthly transport of oil away from Qingdao by road has been raised to one million tonnes from 600,000 tonnes the same period last year. The railway has seen 25.4 percent higher operation than last year. |
