On August 11, the Opening Ceremony of the 9th Qingdao International Sailing Week and Ocean Festival 2017 was held at Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center.

The event this year included six parts with 30-odd sports and entertainment activities.

Compared with previous ones, events of this Sailing week and Ocean Festival upgraded to “seven regattas in two sailing camps” from “three regattas in one sailing camp”.

Apart from the three local regattas, including the Mayor’s Cup Qingdao International Round Islands Regatta, Mazarin Cup Qingdao International Regatta and Sail of Wind Cup Qingdao International OP Sailing Camp and Regatta, a series of new events and sailing camps for different groups of people were added.

Among them, the one that attracted most attention was the 2017 International Regatta for college students from world-renowned universities, such as University of Cambridge, University of Oxford and Imperial College London in Britain, University of California-Berkeley in America, Moscow State University in Russia, University of Melbourne in Australia as well as Peking University, Tsinghua University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China. An excellent team from The Netherlands, who has a long history of sailing, was also involved. Qingdao University of Science and Technology, the runner-up of group A in the 2017 Sailing Championship for Chinese college students, would compete with these rivals in front of its house.

This year, Qingdao International Sailing Week and Ocean Festival interacted with Qingdao International Beer Festival, launching the “Olympic Sailing Summer” beer season and festivals at the Olympic Sailing Center. Citizens and tourists could not only enjoy 20 different flavors of beer and more than 50 different snacks, but also release their passion with physical and mental pleasure through a variety of recreational facilities.
