Qingdao debuted its Overseas Technology Transfer Demonstration Base on Sept 25, with the aim to launch the Laoshan district, where the base is located, into a leading role in advanced technology.

The project will be built into an ecosystem for international technology transfer, the first of its kind in China, so Qingdao may better connect to the world of innovation and complete its industrial upgrading.

As a demonstration of its roles to be played, the launch ceremony included road shows for applications of virtual simulation, automatic charging and robotics, and presentations of 1,000 technological achievements. Dozens of local enterprises, financiers and investment institutions were attracted to the activities.

The ceremony also saw the signing of agreements to back international technological cooperation, and innovation and entrepreneurship. Vice president of Israel's Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, David Bareket offered a keynote speech to the attendees.

The demonstration base will be equipped to cater to various funding demands of all stages of development of a promising project, from laboratory stage to initial public offering. And by integrating industry-chain resources, it can be of great aid to international maker programs.

It also plans to set up technology transfer centers worldwide to showcase Qingdao's competitive resources, to hatch start-up programs, to bridge international talents, and to acquire overseas technological innovations.

UK, Germany and Israel have been chosen to site the first group of overseas centers of such purposes.
