Xu Hanfa, Deputy Head Engineering Unit to Darfur, said, "The security situation in Darfur is proof that the hybrid peacekeeping force of the UN and AU is absolutely necessary, valuable, and urgent. We will fulfill all our tasks to the highest standards to help the local people and to reinforce China's commitment as a responsible nation."

The engineering unit has undergone much training to help the soldiers cope with the local security situation and natural environment. They have also studied the UN Charter and other laws, as well as English and Arabic phrases which could be useful in their peacekeeping mission.
