The opening ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, which falls on the evening of August 8th, is surrounded by many big mysteries. Three dress rehearsals of the grand ceremony have been held under tight security while much of the format and props that will be used have also been kept in secrecy.
But the organizers did offer some information about what are in stock for Friday's opening ceremony at the National Stadium. One of China's most renowned pop singer Liu Huan, and classical soprano Sara Brightman will jointly present the theme song of the Beijing Olympic Games - the title and content of which remain a mystery for now.
When asked about the details of the lighting of the cauldron and the identity of the last torch bearer, organizers say they are always the core secrets.
Zhang Heping, director of opening and closing ceremony, said "The last torch bearer must be selected strictly based on the person's achievements in sports, social influence, special requirement of the cauldron lighting and other Olympic-related factors. Let's keep them under wraps until the last moment."
