The Olympic games are creating a windfall of new business opportunities in co-host city of Qingdao. The city's business operators are tallying up their opportunities.
This is an Olympic franchise retailer in Qingdao's Wusi square. The one hundred square meter shop is crowded with customers. Clothes and souvenirs are big sellers.
A visitor said, "I just bought a canteen and these sail boat models that my mother is holding."
Xu peng, a salesman in Qingdao Olympic Franchise Store, said,"We open the store at eight every morning. And every morning when we open, people already are waiting outside."
This large department store is also crowded with visitors looking to snap up Olympics memorabilia and other items. Some other popular goods are art works, local specialties -- even some imported products. Ginna, a Danish traveller who came to Qingdao for the sailing competitions, likes the Fuwa Olympic mascots.
During the first half of August, retail turnover in Qingdao's ten major stores surged fifteen percent over the same period last year.
