People make their way in the wind and rain as Typhoon Nuri approaches Shenzhen, Guangdong province. [Stringer/Reuters]

Nuri was downgraded to a strong tropical storm on Friday after making landfall. Nearly a million people have been affected, as well as 1200 houses and over 50,000 hectares of farmland.
Local flood prevention and drought relief authorities are taking measures to minimize damage. Heavy rain is forecast to continue in the region today and Monday.
