A strong earthquake has rocked Zhongba County near the city of Xigaze in Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

According to the China Earthquake Center, Monday night's quake was recorded at 6-point-8 on the Richter scale with the epicenter located about ten kilometers underground. County officials say the tremor was strongly felt in townships in Zhongba, cracking some buildings' walls. No casualties have been reported so far.
Experts say the quake will have no effect on the Qinghai-Tibet railway, which lies several hundred kilometers northeast of the quake zone.
