People across China have been celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival. Special cultural activities were held in Nanjing and also the Olympic Sailing Center in Qingdao.

The traditional Chinese festival is an occasion for family reunion, and people often travel hundreds of miles to reunite with their loved ones.

38 students from the quake-hit Qingchuan County in Sichuan Province spent this year's holiday in Hainan Province's Zhuhai City. The three-day national holiday also offered a perfect opportunity for short trips to such scenic spots as Sanya, Hangzhou, and Guilin. This year, Beijing -- with its iconic Olympic venues like the Bird's Nest and the Water Cube -- proved especially popular among tourists.
