Two brothers have been arrested in Hebei province in northern China for their involvement in the contamination of baby milk powder produced by the Sanlu Group.
The Geng brothers have been running a private milk collection station since May 2004. Starting at the end of last year, the elder brother began to put melamine into the milk after several rejections by Sanlu Group.
Police say the Geng brothers have been selling three tons of contaminated milk to Sanlu each day. The suspects confessed that they were aware of the chemical's harmful effect on the human body, saying their family never drank the contaminated milk. Another 19 people from private milk collecting stations are also in police custody.
