China's quality watchdog has deployed more than five thousand experts to dairy companies across the country for inspection checks.
They will focus on checking raw milk sources to prevent substandard milk from contaminating production lines. For dairy companies that do not have the equipment to check for traces of melamine by themselves, raw milk samples will be sent to state-level inspection centers for examination. While continuing to assess baby formula and liquid milk, authorities will also expand their inspections to include food with milk powder as raw ingredients.
Bai Jianguo, deputy chief engineer of the BJ Quality Technology Inspection Bureau, said, "We are inspecting all food companies in Beijing that use milk powder as raw ingredients. Experts are testing their milk powder. The results will be made public."
