Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has given a speech to the annual high-level debate at the UN General Assembly.

He reaffirmed China's commitment to peaceful development, underlining that the country will continue its policy of reform and opening-up.

Wen Jiabao said China has experienced two major events in 2008 -- the devastating Wenchuan Earthquake in southwest Sichuan province and the highly successful Summer Olympics. He said both events have shown Chinese people's strength and wisdom in dealing with challenges. Premier Wen also thanked the international community for its assistance following the earthquake and during the OIympic Games.
