Zheng Jie continued her momentum when the match resumed on Wednesday afternoon, breaking her opponent to build up a 4-love lead. The long rally warmed her up and the Chinese favorite took the first set 6-2.

Zheng Jie dominated the second set through this powerful serve. She was broken only once, but broke her Polish opponent five times during the entire match.

Zheng Jie took the second set 6-3 and won the match in less than an hour. She will meet Ai Sugiyama of Japan in the second round. In the men's singles, an all-American affair: 8th seed Sam Querrey, rallied back to beat Jesse Levine 1-6, 6-2, 7-6.
