Among the highlights of the collection are a 1914 Picasso painting estimated between 30 and 40 million euros, and a Matisse painting which could reach an estimated 15 to 20 million euros.

The late fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent left behind a legacy of haute couture and one of the world's best collections of fine art. That private collection will go on the auction block at Christies.

Other objects up for auction include a wooden sculpture by Constantin Brancusi which could fetch up to 20 million euros. The estimated 300 million euros for the entire collection will go to a foundation which Pierre wants to set up to help scientific research to fight against AIDS.
Pierre Berge, who helped Yves Saint Laurent set up his fashion house in the 1960s explained why he wanted this auction.
Art specialists have been mesmerized by the auction, saying it is one of the most stunning collections ever to be sold in an art auction.
The auction will take place on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of February, 2009.
