The film made 200,000 yuan or over 28,000 US dollars on the first day of release, and its wide release is testament to an increasing interest in domestic art films.

"And the Spring Comes" directed by Gu Changwei postponed its release date to April because of the snowstorm, ravaging many southern cities in February.

The film was a stand out at last year's Rome Film Festival, with lead actress Jiang Wenli winning the best actress award. The film won warm applause from both audience and critics. It won three million yuan, or around 420, 000 US dollars at the box office after two weeks of release, a success for an art house film.
