The airport received over 5.5 million visits this August during the Summer Games and also launched Terminal 3 earlier this year, the world's largest individual terminal. Airport officials plan to build the airport into a major Asian air hub over the next three to five years upgrading service quality and improving the efficiency of passenger transfers.
The airport is also trying to convince the Chinese government to extend the length of transit visas beyond the current 24-hour limit. A rapid transit system linking the airport's three terminals is set to open in 2009. Eighty airlines now service the airport with flights from 187 cities around the world.
