Xie Jin

Born in November 1923, Xie was a native of Shangyu in Zhejiang. He had arrived back in the city last Friday evening to attend the 100th anniversary of the founding of his alma mater - Chunhui Middle School. Xie, made his film directing debut in 1957 with the acclaimed "Women's Basketball Player No. 5." He went on to create other popular features such as "The Red Detachment of Women," "The Herdsman," "Legend of Tianyun Mountain," "The Opium War" and "Hibiscus Town." He remained active as a film maker until 2001, when he directed his last film, "Women's Soccer Player No. 9."
Many of Xie's films have earned multiple honours around the world. Retrospectives of Xie Jin's films are held in France, the United States and India.
