Hong Kong has staged a mock air disaster drill. The local government, the PLA garrison in Hong Kong, and China's Ministry of Transport tested their response and coordination in the event of a plane crash.

Wednesday's exercise was carried out on the water near Hong Kong's Nanya island. In the exercise, a plane crashes because of a mechanical malfunction shortly after taking off.

Hong Kong authorities organized the first rescue efforts. Helicopters arrived quickly to look for survivors. Surface vessels came later. They put out the fire on the remains of the plane and rescued survivors.
