Two American girls Vicky and Cristina spend the summer at the Barcelona hideaway of Vicky's pals, Mark and Judy. No sooner do the girls spot Juan Antonio, a bedroom-eyed painter, than he's hitting on both of them. What sparks the movie is Penelope Cruz as Maria Elena. She's the painter's ex-wife, a fire-ball given to strong emotions. Elena once stabbed Antonio during an argument. Oscar nominated for her role in Pedro Almodovar's, Volver; Cruz is being touted again for this year's Oscar.
