World number one Rafael Nadal will miss Spain's Davis Cup final against Argentina this month after failing to recover from tendinitis in his right knee.
The injured knee forced him to pull out of the season-ending Masters Cup in Shanghai. The French Open and Wimbledon champion said the decision to withdraw had been extremely difficult.
World No. 1 Rafael Nadal said, "It's not a situation I can control. The knee, when I try it, doesn't respond very well. It doesn't seem like I have any strength in it. At 50 or 60 per cent I can't compete with Argentina at this high level. My teammates are much better than I am."
