Cold fronts sweep China
Adjust font size:

Cold fronts have swept over many parts of China. Meanwhile, dense fog blanketed northern and southern provinces on Sunday. And northwestern China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region saw its first heavy snow this winter.

Cold weather has also helped to usher in wintry-like weather in east China's Shandong Province, including strong winds, a sharp drop in temperature and dense fog.

In the northern part of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, heavy snow has fallen. The snow stranded over 500 vehicles at a section of a national highway. After rescuers made their way to the scene, they cleared the road and distributed food to passengers and drivers. Other cities in Xinjiang have also experienced cold weather, with the city of Aletai reporting 22 centimeters of snow.

Local authorities are urging stepped up efforts to protect livestock from the severely cold weather.
