A large meteor streaked across the sky above Western Canada with a blinding flash on Thursday evening. The spectacle was witnessed by people in the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Video from a police car on patrol shows a small light becoming a massive and blindly bright fireball. Then it appears to hit the earth in the distance. Scientists say the meteor possibly weighed between one and ten tons and was bright enough to be seen over an area 435 miles wide.
A search is underway for the remains of the meteor. It may have broken into hundreds of smaller meteorites that landed along the border between Saskatchewan and Alberta.
