Britain's Queen Elizabeth the Second has delivered her annual Christmas broadcast. She said despite the shadow cast by the economic crisis over the festive season, people should not lose courage.

The annual broadcast is one of the only times the queen publicly voices her own opinion, without government consultation.

Speaking in a pre-recorded message from Buckingham Palace, the 82-year-old queen wished everybody a merry Christmas.
