"Future Cops" shuttle between times
Directed by Wong Jing, and starring Andy Lau, Barbie Hsu and child star Xu Jiao, “Future Cop” started shooting in Hong Kong at the end of 2008. It is a sci-fi blockbuster, telling of so-called "future cops" battling evil forces to protect scientists from danger.
Andy Lau plays one of the "future cops" who can shuttle between different eras. The cop, belonging to the time period after 2080, returns to the year of 2010, and joins hands with policewoman played by Barbie Hsu, in a mission to arrest an international criminal gang.
Actor Andy Lau said, "In previous movies, I was always involved in relationships, and portraying characters’ emotions has been my strength. But in this film, I have a role with less emotion, because my character shuttles back from the future to the present. I hope I make a breakthrough in this point."
The script of Future Cop was revised 19 times before Lau agreed to play the role. It was a delightful experience for Barbie Hsu, who has been a fan of Lau. It's child star Xu Jiao’s second screen effort, playing the daughter of Lau's character. She was first known to audiences as the lead in Stephen Chow’s CJ 7 last year. And she won't play a boy this time.
Future Cop will feature myriad of CGI stunts, with over 900 stunt scenes. The stunt team of Spider Man six is in charge of the stunts in this movie. In addition, an action choreographer has designed very demanding acts for the two lead roles. The film is scheduled to be released at the end of 2009.
