The cast and crew noted before the movie premiere that their production did not boast any world famous director, big-name movie stars or stunning visual effects. But now director Ning Hao has become a household name. But he says popularity is NOT the most essential requirement for his actors.
Director Ning Hao said, "I think all the actors I've chosen are pretty good. They have to have their own individual character, because I think that's where beauty lies."
Nin Hao was once a "nobody" too. He worked as a bicycle repairer, TV reporter, stage designer, advertising man and photographer. But the films "Incense" and "Mongolian Pingpong" shot in Nin's early years won him international trophies, attracting attention from the critics. In 2006, Hong Kong artist Andy Lau launched a campaign offering financial assistance for the crop of young movie talents across the country. And Nin Hao was among many chosen by Lau to join his program. And that helped to set the stage for Ning's future success.
