FIFA officials were in South Africa to gauge progress ahead of the 2010 World Cup on Tuesday, and gave an encouraging assesment of the development of the stadia. The organising committee also expressed their outright condemnation of Tuesday's attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Pakistan, describing the situation as 'terrible'.
Secretary General Jerome Valcke told a news conference in Johannesburg that FIFA will put security at the 'maximum level' during the World Cup and the Confederations Cup in June 2009. Valcke also discussed issues such as ticketing arrangements with the local organizing committee. However, despite progress on stadium construction, Valcke was disappointed about the general level of enthusiasm prevalent in South Africa ahead of the two events.
