Upon graduation from the Academy, Miao Pu landed some minor roles, such as in film "Beg You to Praise Me", and the TV series "Song Dynasty Chief Justice". But her performance was overlooked amid of a galaxy of stars. Miao Pu's breakthrough came in 2005 when she played in the TV series "The Fragrance of Flower of Pagoda Tree". In this drama about the life of antique dealers, Miao Pu played a girl who evolved from an uncomplaining girl working to support her lazy brother to an independent woman who devoted her self to the revolution for justice. Her powerful performance won favorable acclaim.
The role also won her some later offers of the same type of role, fighting her way through a miserable life with a spunky attitude. Such as in "Cherries" and "Crossing Over".
In the film "Cherries" Miao plays a mentally handicapped woman who is happily married to a man with infantile paralysis. She adopts an abandoned baby girl as her own. Working with all amateur actors and actress requires Miao to be also very natural. She mastered this challenge well, and the film caused a stir at the Tokyo Film Festival.
